Luanda Pau was born in 1976 in Havana, Cuba. She is the daughter of Rosa Baquero, artistic director and choreographer of the Cabaret "Parisien & Tropicana de Cuba" and of the legendary Afro-Cuban dance Master Domingo Pau.

In 1991 she began her studies at the National School of Arts where she remained until 1994. Later she entered the renowned National Folkloric Ballet of Cuba, where she danced as a soloist and principal dancer.
